Talking is like breathing. If I’m not talking, then something is wrong with me.
There is more to it than that though. Social interaction via speaking with another person is just fun. On a typical day, I am sure that I speak to at least 20-30 people. Some think talking is a waste, however that is how one makes connections, networking, friends, relationships etc.
When still pursuing Dentistry, and even when not one of my biggest strengths has been my ability to just speak. Some people I know seem to think there is an ancient art to speaking to one another. What I usually tell people is that you really never know who you will meet that can help you to your dreams or know someone who can help you or how you can help them. In order to find this out though, you have to speak. It is as simple as saying hello and smiling. It is one of the easiest things one can do. It could make someone’s day simply because someone said hello to you and smiled.
Unfortunately, a lot of people do not seem to want to talk to people unless they are in their “circle”. How did they meet the people in their “circle”? They talked. It’s just that simple.
It’s hilarious when people ask me how I know and met the people who I know. “It’s simple.”, say hello, and see where it goes. It could be a life changing conversation, or a simple how is the weather”.
Go out and talk to someone new.
