Madness.

Check out this great video from one of my favorite groups, Muse. I personally dig this song.

Love is Madness isn’t it? It’s difficult, it can get messy & it can hurt. Sometimes it is beautiful, exciting & inspiring. Love, in my opinion is a constantly changing moving target depending on where we are at the moment & what it is we are doing that is either making us mad, happy or confused. Love is like life. (Maybe I should have just said this.)

Here is my point, what exactly is love? Is it something you grab on to & don’t let go of even when it hurts? Is it something that you just know or is it something inherently known? Do you grow into it? Do you learn it? Is it something granted to all or a select few? Is it selfish, tactless or the greatest thing ever?

I am sure you are thinking, “What is he talking about?” I will go ahead & confirm that part of this has to do with love between one person & another, but that’s not what I’m getting at. (This blog is not about personal relationships my friends…)

This is about your career. No, this is about your life’s work. I’ve heard that your work is to find your work & once you do, you find it put your everything into it. Here is the exact quote.

“Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.”

Want to see a great example of this? Check out Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

So what do you do when you have a setback? That’s when you really find out how much you care (or don’t care) about something. (Or depending on context…). Do you regroup, brush yourself off & get back to work or do you mope, ask why & whine?

So what, something didn’t work out. Maybe there was a reason. Maybe you aren’t quite ready. Maybe you missed a critical detail. Regardless, it can be maddening. But maybe, if you care that much about it you may just find yourself closer than you think. So here’s to enjoying the madness.
